My sister had a Poochie. I thought it was a strange idea for a toy, a bright pink and white stuffed dog, but in retrospect it wasn’t any stranger than any of the toys I had at her age. At her age I had an Action Man which, lets be honest, was a Barbie for boys.
Along with the Poochie itself you could get loads of Poochie spin-of accessories. There were pencil sets, rolls of stickers and a mini celotape set. (yeah, I know!?) My favourites were the Poochie stampers, which were an ink pad and stamp set, which you could stamp small paw prints onto things. These were fun, if only for annoying your sister with by stamping on their hands and head. (probably…)
Most of all, I remember the catchy tune in the adverts…
Poochie, oh Poochie,
Lovely little Poochie,
Oh your ears are pink and your paws are too,
Everybody seems to fall in love with you…
I don’t think I fell in love with Poochie, (which in todays climate would surely be a misleading advertisement claim and worthy of contacting Trading Standards about,) but her ears were definitely pink and so were her paws, so at least half of the advert was correct.
